Windows 8 and Windows 10 both come with a lot of customization options, and when of them is Changing User Account Picture. But, Do you know that, you can also set and play a short video for your User Account? In this tutorial, you will learn to set a short video of 5 seconds for your User Account. Not only that, you will also learn to trick window, and place your favorite video as User Account Picture.
In Windows 8, from the Start Screen click the User Name, and then click Change Account Picture, or open Charms, and then click Change PC settings, and then click Account Picture.
In Windows 10, from the Start button, click the User Account Picture, and then click Change Account Settings, or click Settings from Start button, and then click Accounts.
Now click the Browse button, and choose your favorite picture that you want to have as your User Account Picture. Here you can click the Camera button, and can “Click” a latest picture of yours.
So finally, here is the tricky part. You can click the Video button, and can record a short video to be played on your Login Screen. Do remember that, doesn’t matter how long video you record, Windows will automatically trim the video to 5 seconds.
To see the changes, click the Start button, click User Name, and then click Lock. Looks Nice, isn’t?
But the problem is that, you can only place a live video that you had recorded previously. There is no option to browse for your favorite video.
To place your favorite 5 seconds video on Lock Screen User Picture, you need to modify some additional settings that are hidden. So let’s hack into some Hidden Windows Settings. To place your favorite video as User Account Video, first you need 3 copies of the same video, with different dimension, and the dimensions are as follows:
For Windows 8,
First Video : 200x200, Second Video : 240x240, Third Video : 448x448,
For Windows 10,
First Video : 192x192, Second Video : 240x240, Third Video : 448x448
You can use any third-party utility to convert the size as required, as I already have these video on my desktop. So hack into Windows system, first you need to turn on Show Hidden Files options. To do this, open Computer, click View menu, and then click Options, and then click “Change Folders and Search Options”. Within from Folder Options, click View tab, and select the option “Show hidden files, folders, and drives.” You also need to uncheck the option, Hide Protected Operating System Files. Once done, apply the changes. Now, open the drive where your Windows is installed. Move To Users, Public, Public Account Pictures, which is a hidden system folder. Inside this folder, you will find a folder with unique name. Open this folder and here you will see those video files, that we were talking about. You may also require to change the folder security settings, so you can modify the files within this folder.
Now, what you need to do is to, change these video files with your custom video files, that you want to have on your Windows Lock Screen. But the trick is not yet over. First place your files by cutting, and pasting them inside this folder.
The last step is to replace your video file names with actual system file names. For this, repeat the following steps for all three files. Select the first system video file with the name ending with Video192, right-click and choose Rename. Copy the File Name, to store it to the Clipboard, and change this file name to anything. Now, select your first file, and Rename it by pasting the name you copied before.
Repeat this step for the rest two files. Rename your files as System File names, and change the System File names to anything.
Once you are done, click the Start button, and then click your User Name, click Lock screen, and there you go! You now have your favorite video getting played on your Lock Screen. Impress your friends with this trick.
