How to Use Toggle Keys in Microsoft Windows 10 / 8.1 / 8 / 7 / XP

In this Windows Tutorial, you will learn about another feature of Ease of Access Center. As discussed in our previous lesson, I had explained you that the Accessibility Options are useful for the people, who have visual, hearing, and physical disabilities. In this lesson, I will explain you about the benefits of using Toggle Keys.

Toggle Keys is designed for those people, who have vision impairment or cognitive disabilities. Toggle Keys can play an alert sound each time Locking Keys are pressed. Locking Keys are, Caps Lock, Num Lock, and Scroll Lock. When these keys are Switch On, a high sound plays, and a low sound plays when they are turned off. These sound alerts can help prevent the frustration of inadvertently pressing a key and not realizing it.

To Turn On Toggle Keys, click on Start, then click on Control Panel, in Control Panel click on Ease of Access Center. Click on “Make the keyboard easier to use”. Here make a check mark on “Turn on Toggle Keys”.

Now, whenever a Locking Key will be pressed, you will hear a loud sound, and a low sound will play, when they are turned off. For instance, I open WordPad, and then turn on Caps Lock. You can hear a sound as I am turning on and off the Caps Lock. You can also see the status of the Caps Lock in the Status Bar. This also applies to the Num Lock, and the Scroll Lock keys. This is really helpful for the people with who have visual impairment.

You can also Turn On and Off Toggle Keys, using a keyboard shortcut. To Turn on or off Toggle Keys, hold down the Numeric Lock key for five seconds.
