With the new Start Menu in
Windows 8, many of Start Menu and Taskbar customization options has been
removed, and one of them is the “Recent Documents”, which was available in
previous versions of Windows. Now through a little tweak, you can again place this
convenient shortcut again on your new Start Screen.
Press Windows+R key to open the
Run command, and then type “RECENT” in the open box. This is the actual
location of the Recent Documents system folder, which is hidden by default. If
you click inside the address bar, then you can note down the entire address and
location of this folder.
So, here is the trick. Copy the
folder address from the address bar. Now right-click on the Desktop, point to
New, and then click Shortcut. In the location box, paste the address you copied
in the previous step. Click Next, change the name if you want, and then click
Finish.
Right-click on the new Recent
Documents shortcut, and then click Pin To Start, and here you have your Recent
Documents back on your Start Screen. If you want then you can remove the
shortcut from the Desktop, to keep it clean.
