Windows 7 Customization - Make Google Searches From Start Menu

We can use the “Start Menu’s Search Box” as a convenient way to search through our PC. But do you know that you can also use Search Box to perform internet searches as well? Now, you don’t have to open your browser, and do a Google for a specific topic. You can perform this action right from your Start Menu’s Search Box.

To enable this feature, click Start button, in the search box, type GPEDIT.MSC, and click GPEDIT from the search results. This will launch the LOCAL GROUP POLICY EDITOR. Within from Group Policy Editor Window, double-click Administrative Templates under User Configuration. This will expand Administrative Template menu, and will give you many more options and settings to configure. Click “Start Menu and Taskbar” from the left side pane, and in the right side pane, you will be presented with many options that you can configure through GPEDIT. The very first option is “Add Search Internet Link to Start Menu”. Double-click this option to open the Properties window. By default, this option state is set to “Not configured” and “Search the Internet” link is not available on the Start Menu. Click “Enabled” and press OK button. Close the Group Policy Editor.

To test our new settings, click Start button, and in the Search field type something that you want to search through Internet. For instance, I want some information on “Seven Wonders of the World”, so I type “Seven Wonder” in the search box, and you can see that we have a new option available “Search the Internet”. Click the “Search the Internet” link. This will open your default browser, with default search provider, and will display results instantly.

So this really saves the time of opening a browser, then choosing a search provider like Google, and then typing your search criteria.
