Windows 8.1 Start Screen - New Features Explained

The new Start Screen of Windows 8.1, is where you can keep track of everything, you like the most. Like your favorite apps, favorite files, desktop programs, and your friends. 

When you start Windows 8.1 for the first time, the new and improved Start screen already have some apps. If you want to see all of your apps then just click the down arrow from the lower left corner of your screen. Apps view is where the new installed applications go by default. The new installed applications are labeled new, so they are easy to find. You can sort the apps list, by name, date installed, most used, or by category. 

You can easily find a specific app, just by typing the name in the search box. You can pin your favorite apps to start screen from apps view. You can pin as many items you want in a time. Just right-click to select an app, and then click, Pin to Start. When you pin new apps, they shows up at the end of your start screen. 

In Windows 8.1, the start screen icons are also called Tiles. You can easily move apps icon or tiles, just by dragging and dropping them.

You can pin your other favorite things to start screen too. Like people from the people app, your favorite website, or the folders you use the most. You can also resize tiles on your start screen. Right-click on an item, click resize, and choose the size you want. 

The new Windows Start Screen will be your favorite place to be, to personalize, organize, and make the way you want it.
